“Change never come and knocks our door if we
wait for some other person to take the responsibility to initiate any work at a
particular time. We are the one that we have been waiting for; we are the
change that we seek.” - Barack Obama.
Women
Empowerment is the process where women are allowed to acquire the ability that
they have been restricted earlier. There are certain principles which define
women’s empowerment such as they should be capable in decision making,
self-supporting and policymaking.
Women
empowerment has become a hot topic of discussion in our daily conversations.
Research Scholars observed that change has to come in two forms such as
economic empowerment and political empowerment of women. In Economic Empowerment women can increase
their outside access to government programs, purchasing power, policy-making
and economic independence. Political Empowerment they can generate policies
that support gender equality and political interference of women in policy
making areas.
One
proposition for women is to provide more educational opportunities which will
increase their rational thinking and confidence, which strengthens their skills
and easy to get into the jobs in their interested fields.
Another
strategy to strengthen women is – They should be provided easy access to property
inheritance and rights to be regulated to improve women economically, this will
support them financially and can acquire better means of capital for their
startups.
One popular
methodology to empower women is to include microcredit. Micro financial institutions
have to come forward by providing easy access to the loans with low-interest
rates without providing any collateral securities. This encourages many women
entrepreneurs in the society, ultimately job opportunities will increase among
women.
Speaking
about Political Empowerment, it supports them in policy making and fights
against gender inequalities in both public and private spheres. Popular
methodologies by scholars have been suggested that are to provide affirmative
action policies which increase the women quota in parliament positions and in
policy-making places.
India is
notable for its cultural heritage traditions, civilization etc. Swami
Vivekananda magnified Indian women for their great accomplishments and he
stated that women are the leaders, and entered in all fields and proved
themselves equal to men. The Sun can give heat and light, but he cannot do so
when the clouds shut out his rays. Similarly, as long as women are supported
they can easily appraise the society.
According to
Vedas, women stand paramount. They are the symbol of culture. In Vedas, it is
clearly mentioned that woman should be with good memory so as to fulfill their
duties and deep thinking skills and courage to face odd times and to pardon
others.
A Mantra in
the Yajurveda -
Sa
Visvayuh Sa Vishvkarma Sa Vishvdhayah Indrasya Twa Bhagam Somen Aatnachmi
Vishno
Havyam Raksha.
The woman is
the creator, controller and supporter. If she is capable of playing all her
roles, then Why don’t she is Empowered?
For women,
there is no ornament other than their power, name and fame.
Let us
join our hands for a noble cause.
